Skills4Science Webinar: Thursday 2 July

Recruitment challenges, skills shortages, and increasing pressure on existing teams continue to affect employers across science and technical industries.

According to data from Post Parliament UK, 49% of engineering and technology businesses report recruitment difficulties due to skills shortage, and those shortages are estimated to cost the UK economy a whopping £1.5 billion per year.

At Skills4Science, we truly believe in the value of apprenticeships, particularly in an industry that is struggling with retention rates, skills shortage, and recruitment challenges – which is why we are hosting an online event to provide valuable information and support around apprenticeships.

Why attend?

This webinar has been designed especially to address the ongoing STEM skills shortages, rising recruitment costs, and the pressure to retain and develop existing staff.

We will cover topics such as addressing:

  • Skills Gaps

  • New Incentives and Funding updates

  • Flexible Delivery Models

  • Improving Retention

  • Engagement and building Long-Term Talent Pipelines.

The event will not take up a huge chunk of the day, as we will take you from being unsure about apprenticeships to knowing exactly where and how to start in 45 minutes.

43.8% of apprenticeship starts were existing employees with more than 12 months' service, showing substantial use of apprenticeships for workforce upskilling and retention, rather than just new recruitment.

The event will be hosted online on Thursday 2 July at 1pm by our Science Industry Apprentice Specialist, Jay Crabb, and isn’t just a typical presentation, it will be an active discussion where we will provide you with information and support on how apprenticeships can help address recruitment and skills shortages challenges, covering the latest incentives, funding opportunities, and practical ways employers are using apprenticeships to attract, develop, and retain talent.

If hiring, developing, or retaining skilled staff is part of your role, this session is for you.

It is designed for employers operating within:
  • Pharmaceuticals

  • Life Sciences

  • Chemicals
